Education for civic engagement of Roma communities
The project is part of the efforts of the implementing organizations to put in practice the principles of Roma inclusion Decade (2005-2015) and answers RSDF' objectives to fight against poverty and promote social inclusion; it was destined to prepare the Roma communities for the Priority Intervention Program which will be implemented by RSDF within the following period for 100 of the poorest Roma communities.
For implementing the project, RSDF developed a Consortium with the Agency for Community Development "Impreuna" and worked in partnership with local organizations (Ruhama Foundation, Catalactica Association, Equal Chances Association and the Foundation ProEurope League ), with regional offices of the National Agency for Roma, and local authorities of the three developing regions. Coordination of community development activities through regional partners was a successful key of the project and one element that ensure the sustainability and dissemination of the results.
Period - 2006-2008
General objectives
Improve the capacity of Roma citizens to participate in decision making within their own communities and increase participation of Roma children in education courses of pre-schools and primary schools.
Beneficiaries
- 40 Roma adults
- 60 disadvantaged Roma communities selected from 3 developing regions of the country (North-Western,Center and Southern parts)

Results
- training of 44 Roma adults as community facilitators on issues related to access to education; during the running of the project most of them being employed for facilitating activities;
- elaboration of 60 community level educational plans which will be included in the local development strategies;
- creation of 60 local initiative groups (out of which 39 have been formally recognized by the local authorities);
- the project create the premises for Roma community development; therefore, 32 communities (of 36 eligibible) submitted applications to participate at the competition financing rounds organized by RSDF within the Priority Intervention Program to get financing to run integrated projects;
- the improvement of skills and capacity of Roma citizens to participate in decision-making process at community level;
- increasing the preoccupation of Roma parents to ensure the access to education for their children.
